Is Car Insurance Cheaper at a Younger Age?

My parents want me to take driver’s ed & get my license this year (at 16) to lower the cost of car insurance by the age of 21 or so. Will getting your license at a younger age really lower the price of your car insurance?

  1. You can compare how the insurance quotes would change, for example here - autoinsurance.noneto.com

  2. Yes

  3. nope the younger you are the more inexperienced you are so higher the premiums

  4. learner drivers and new drivers are far more likely to have accidents than experienced drivers, so tbh, i’d say that new drivers are actually more expensive to insure.

  5. nope

NO, taking drivers ed does! They are HOPING you’ll actually LEARN how NOT to have an accident!

  7. In the long run…maybe a little but not by much. The main reason is because you’ll have more driving history and as long as you don’t get any tickets or into any accidents it will help. Really though, your insurance won’t go down until you are 25 and even then it is a minimal reduction.

  8. Eh. It’s kinda spendy when you’re at a younger age. Once you turn 21 it’ll go down. If you’re a girl, it’s gonna be cheaper than if you’re a guy beacuse guys tend to crash & speed more (haha sadly) I’m 17 y/o (female) and I pay less than $1,000 a year. Seems like a lot but really it’s suuper cheap. I pay like $70 a month. It’s awesome haha. Once I turn 21 it’ll go down to like $35-60. :)

  9. The younger you are, the more expensive it is. Rates drop a lot when you turn 21 and so on. Your rate will drop a considerable amount at age 25. And the older you get, the cheaper it gets, as long as you have a good driving records, no tickets (or a minimal amount), no accidents (or a minimal amount).

Yeah, and being a female will keep your rates lower than if you were a male. Although, men tend to be better drivers, in my opinion. My girlfriend has been driving since she was 13 or 14, before ever having a license and she said that I drive better than her. I’ve been driving for 4 or 5 years maybe.

  10. Well, do not be sure because studies say that you know younger people tend to get in more accidents than experienced ones so the rates probably are higher.

  11. This year your car insurance will be astronomically high because you are a new driver and will likely have some mishaps. Taking driver’s ed and maintaining a good driving record, i.e. no tickets, accidents, and even good grades will make your car insurance price drop incrementally, significantly by the time you are 21.

No, but drivers ed will help

  13. no defiantly not! car insurance is more expensive because when your younger your less experienced which means there is a higher risk of you damaging you vehicle. and if you have a two door car. your insurance is nearly doubled!

  14. no, it increses the cost. usually you cant get affordable insurance until you are expereinced between 2 and 5 years. im 19, but the only way i got good insurance was becuase i tied it in with my homeowners insurance. i have full coverage on my car and liability on my husband’s. and i pay about 100 dollars a month for ins.

  15. Insurance rates are based on a lot of things. If you’re a student you may qualify for discounts based on grades but it has a lot more to do with your driving record and experience on the road. Most insurance drops at 25 but your state may be different.

  16. So long as you don’t get into any accidents, yes. Experience lowers your rate. In the meantime, however, while you are 16 - 21, the best things you can do to lower your insurance premium rates are:

Stay out of accidents! Pay attention to the defensive driving techniques they teach you in driver’s ed.

Get good grades and have your parents apply for the good student discounts for you.

  17. Newer drivers usually pay the highest insurance premiums because they are inexperienced, therefore they are a much higher risk. Inexperienced younger drivers cause the most accidents. If you take driver’s ed, you usually get a discount for that, depending on the state you live in. If, by the age of 21, you have never had an accident, never had a ticket and are deemed a safe driver, your insurance costs will be cheaper than when you first started driving, because you have experience and a good record behind you.

  18. Typically, the younger you are, the more expensive insurance is going to be. But, if you start driving at 16, you’ll have 5 years experience vs. someone who started at 18. Some insurance company will give you cheaper rates based on this fact. Drive carefully and don’t get tickets. It’s not worth it.

However, until you turn 25, you will be paying higher premium. Shop around for insurance and remember, you are not obligated to keep the same insurance company for years.

  19. You need to compare rates from various insurance providers. This site should help.

  21. Okay, I have two cars (2003 Accord & a 1999 Bmw 323i). I have basic liability for both cars for my wife and I as drivers, plus $25,000 additional liability coverage on the cars.

We just paid $427 for an entire year for the same car insurance company we were already paying around $2,000 for before! How can you beat that? I have tried and I have looked through numerous car insurance companies, you have to find the right bargain. Find the best deals available on the entire internet. If you already have Allstate, Geico, AIG, Progressive, Mercury, Esurance, American Family, Nationwide or any other USA auto insurance, and you are paying too much, Go here:

    Thank You and God Bless!

  22. No, the younger/newer driver you are the higher the car insurance because you are more at risk of an accident due to less experience compared to older drivers that have more experience.
