OK People - in the market for 1st time car, and I notice the SmartCar has 599cc - so is it cheap to insure?
I ADORE this little car, it’s perfect for what I need! I know the larger the engine the more expensive it is to insure, so as this is a little 599cc car, I assume it’s cheaper .. is that right? I’m not gifted with a knowledge of cars and how they work (apart from petrol in and off we go).
If this car IS expensive for whatever other reason, are there any other small cars suitable for me? I’m only 17, so a young driver. And so I’m trying to keep insurance and tax as low as possible.
Thanks everybody
PS I’m in the UK.
Two seats is perfect for what I’m looking for ![]()
And I know they’re initially expensive, but it’s a half gift to me, so I’m only paying half which I can afford
cheap to insure , yep, and really really cheap to run, terific mpg,
once your in the car you hardly notice that its a 2 seater, and there is room in the back for shopping or a suitcase.
autoinsurance.bebto.com - check this one. As I remember they have lowest car insurance rates for teens and young drivers.
Cheap tp insure and tax but disproportionately expensive to buy. Remember only seats 2
The insurance for this car is actually quite expensive in regard to the vehicle weight/horsepower. It’s cheaper to insure than your average vehicle but the discount is not commensurate with the reduction in vehicle horsepower and weight.
Yes, the car itself is overpriced. Their reasoning is that you will save quite a bit of money as opposed to spending it on gas, so you (in theory) are willing to spend more to buy the actual vehicle. Personally, I would get something slightly larger and safer. You are 17, meaning that you are more likely to make a mistake than the other guy on the road. I’m not saying you aren’t a safe driver, but you won’t have experience on your side. I say get a larger vehicle that can protect you, until you are more experienced behind the wheel.
